California Bean Bank
L.A.P.D. stands for LA Confidential Purple Diesel, which
incorporates the names of both parents for this strain while
giving this strain an unmistakably left coast address. LA
Confidential is a celebrity strain that made the rounds in the
1990s Los Angeles market and then became available through
DNA Genetics. This parent is primarily OG Kush genetics, with
its signature heavy indica hashiness, sweet spice-like flavors,
and sultry, dreamy high that borders on the psychedelic. The
Purple Diesel parent counteracts the lazy in the LA
Confidential with a big burst of energy that may translate into
physical activity or creative pursuits. The Purple Diesel is that
jacked-up, clean-yourhouse-with-the-music-blaring weed that
some people love, all wrapped in a slightly sour and purely
pungent package.
When combined in the L.A.P.D., this 50/50 cross is a versatile
multi-tasker. It does well indoors and out, but makes its best
showing when greenhouse grown. L.A.P.D. also transitions well
in many gardening styles, including soil or hydro gardens, in
SOG or SCROG setups. It is particularly good for hot dry
climates characteristic of the southwestern U.S. including
southern California and also into Nevada, Arizona, and other
hot dry states. Those in wetter or more humid climates will
have to watch for molds since the bud formation is very tight.
Although the L.A.P.D. plant tends to follow its indica half of its
roots and stay on the shorter end of the scale, it will stretch
greatly if kept too far from the light. Harvest times are fairly
fast, finishing in as few as 7 weeks indoors or early to midOctober when grown outside or in a greenhouse. At ripeness, L.A.P.D. forms incredibly compact and dense, crystalladen
nuggets with interesting crimson and purple tints.
Yields of the L.A.P.D. are solid, with a typical harvest
between 2.5–3.5 ounces (80–100g) per plant, or 300g per
square meter in a sea of green. Outdoor yields max out at a
little over a pound (600g) per plant, but CA Bean Bank favors
the more concentrated effects of indoor grown L.A.P.D. over
the mellower outdoor bud. L.A.P.D. is very heady, and begins
with the Purple Diesel’s up effects, but quickly settles into a
much calmer and more sedate buzz. With light inhalation, it is
an effective body relaxant; in heavier doses, it is seriously
intoxicating. CA Bean Bank breeders say, “to protect and serve
or to take you out—the L.A.P.D. can do both.” Taste fans will
enjoy this strain’s sweet top notes of grape and pine carried
with a rich earthy undertone and a little bit of pepper on the
finish. Medical users may appreciate the strong body effects,
which are good for stress, cramps, spasms, chronic pain, and
fatigue.
